The United States has people from all walks of life who have gone there to live the American dream and seek a better future. Some got to America from the now long gone slave trade. Most of these are the black Americans. For instance, the DNA of Condoleezza Rice traces her roots all the way to Cameroon in Africa while that of Dr. Ben Carson traces back all the way to Turkana in Kenya, also Africa. The US is also home to Mexicans, Syrians, and Muslims from war-torn nations who ran there as refugees. These people embraced the American lifestyle and considered America their only home. For instance, the late Steve Jobs proved that America was his single home by making all the inventions there and not his home country, Syria. The famous DJ and business mogul, DJ Khaled, though a Palestinian has embraced America and lives the American dream. All these people have not only become permanently full citizens of the United States but also work and build the country.

Consequently, it would be okay to say that the US is a global village with people from diverse backgrounds, who have come together to live as a community. An excellent focal point would be the case of African Americans. These people arrived in America as slaves, bound to eternal slavery (Greene, 2005). However, the Thirteenth Amendment to the US Constitution put an end to slavery. The Fourteenth Amendment, in turn, made them American citizens. After that, according to the Fifteenth Amendment, the voting rights could not be denied because of someones race, color, or history of slavery. Even so, the official residence of the president of the United States remains to be The White House. It makes one wonder why a house which belongs to everyone should be named in a manner that makes it belong just to a section of the entire population, the whites.

If indeed the president is a representative of the country as a whole, then, his/her official residence should also reflect an unbiased representation of all Americans. The house should be painted brown to fulfill the requirements of the Fifteenth Amendment to even in the symbolism of the leadership.
