Social media strategists play a significant role in creating the consumer image of an organization, and also manage all organization information in social media which play a significant role in neutralizing negative public relations and promotes positive organization interaction with the community. A social media strategist and the supporting staff are responsible for communicating regarding the organization to the public and also maintaining the brand identity using various technological tools and social media networks. The primary departmental rule in social media engagement is remaining consistent, personable, and constant engagement. The social media strategist builds a relationship between the public and the organization where an organization can bond and establish a relationship with the customers through product oriented topics. Finally, social media strategist plays a significant role in the analysis of the overall market which can be used by the organization to improve market communication, customer service models, and the creation of market-oriented products.
Social Media Strategist Telecommuting
Telecommuting refers to the ability of employees to carry work home and also work from home. Today, technology has significantly revolutionized how people work. Powerful communication networks and the presence of many people in social media today make social media marketing very dear to every organization. As a result, social media strategists play a significant role in every organization well-being regarding market performance and also the brand image. Social media strategizing heavily rely on technology which can be used within an organization premises and also the people working in social media strategy department can be able to carry their work home. The social media strategy department can be able to work from home because they largely rely on the use of technological applications which can be managed using a computer platform (Allen, Timothy and Kristen 40).
Benefits of Social Media Strategists Department Telecommuting
Social media plays a significant role today towards an organization marketing strategy, consumer public relations as well as working closely with the organization research department to ensure an organization meets the needs of an organization (Harpaz, 74).
Telecommuting Will Ensure Constant Communication with the Consumers. Telecommuting plays a significant role in the discussion and interaction of an organization with its consumers which play a significant role in the establishment and maintenance of an organization brand image. Working from home will ensure that the workers within the social media strategy department can access all the required information resources and security clearance to access an organization social media accounts which will provide constant communication and interaction with the consumers in social media. In this way the organizations achieve success which is dependent on this approach of remaining open to dynamism, adapting and embracing the shifts in technology (Blount and Marianne 62). For instance, staying in touch with the workplace and responding to the phone calls, emails, fax or any other method the company uses to reach its clients would offset the notion that out of sight means out of mind (Pride, Robert and Jack 296). In doing so, the company assures its clients of undisrupted interaction, and customer satisfaction is guaranteed.
Telecommuting Increases Productivity. Telecommuting can increase the flexibility of the people working in the social media strategy department which increases their productivity and engagement towards an organization social media strategy. Telecommuting can improve the ability of the organization to promptly address the consumer problems and dissatisfactions which can lead to a poor brand image. The employees working at home would be able to avoid distractions such as commuting, health problems among other issues. In some instance, the employees might surpass their previous performance or productivity rates and achieve maximum productivity. Reduced distractions improve the productivity levels of the employees who would then retain more time for personal and physical well-being needs that usually optimize productivity. The increased productivity can also be attributed to quieter environments at home. In such an environment, the employees can work more hours as compared to those in distracting places. Additionally, social media companies benefit from healthy employees who have the extra boost of productivity, and result in good interaction with clients and achieve a good reputation.
Telecommuting Is Eco-Friendly to the Employee and the Organization. Working from home reduces the cost an organization has to incur to transport the employees from home to the organization premises as well as the cost of maintaining the office. Every organization today seeks to reduce its operating cost and telecommuting is amongst the many approaches that can be used to improve an overall organization reduction in operational space. The option of hiring in-house employees is expensive since the company would have to rent the office spaces, buy computer equipment to be used in the offices and also pay for the incurred utility bills. An eco-friendly business allows its clients to work from home, and the company plays a significant role in reducing climate change due to the reduced number of commuters to the workers. Greenhouse gas emissions and pollution is reduced significantly when there is less traffic to and from the cities. Additionally, workers at home will most likely use less office equipment and electricity hence reducing waste.
Redirecting the Office Space to Other Space Deprived Departments. Telecommuting allows an organization to utilize its overall space effectively towards an organization success. Telecommuting can ensure that the space that was previously allocated to the social media strategy department can be reduced and redistributed to the departments that need more space such as administration department. The social media company would be able to lower overhead costs due to the reduced office space. Reducing costs is beneficial to a company that reduces expenses incurred by wasted office spaces. In that case, it can lease the extra office spaces and create a shared workspace when the employees are in the offices. Telecommuting enables the company to break up large and centralized facilities into multiple smaller and decentralized workplaces. Therefore, the company would save real estate costs and avoid the risks of concentrating in a single location (Apgar 266). For instance, the company can shift other facilities to cheaper cities and suburban areas.
Telecommuting Ensures that An Organization Can Reduce Employee Turnover. Lack of flexibility in a working environment is amongst the major leading reasons for high employees turnover. High employee turnover increases the cost an organization incurs in recruiting, training and development of its employees to meet their organization roles. Therefore, telecommuting will be cost efficient towards an organization by reducing the necessity to hire and develop the employees. Additionally, the flexibility of telecommuting ensures satisfaction of the workers and would be less likely to leave the company. Since training and recruiting new employees to prove expensive to the hiring department of the company, telecommuting can help with retention and recruitment strategies through the good reputation associated with flexibility.
Telecommuting Alternatives
Today, organizations are creating working alternatives to improve employee motivation and retention in an organization. Telecommuting is amongst the many work arrangements that an organization can use to improve employee efficiency and flexibility. However, there are many alternative work arrangements that an organization can choose from to improve employees flexibility and retention (Mas and Amanda 3722).
Flex Time. Offering flexible jobs enables the company to increase its talent pool. Some talented job seekers opt to live in the remote areas, and when the company hires them, it would most likely get the best talent for the appropriate skill set. The employees also reciprocate with loyalty and increased productivity if their schedules are accommodated by the company. They can choose their working hours and balance their lives to be productive (Reilly, Nora Sirgy and Gorman 272).
Part Time. Employees working fewer hours usually have higher productivity as they adjust their daily life to match the requirements of their jobs. Some choose to provide services to their clients while at home whenever they are not available in the offices. A 24-hour service should have a part-time schedule to offer services to their clients at any time of day.
Job Sharing. In a job sharing scenario, two or more employees share one full-time position with each choosing to some working hours that would be most convenient for him or her.
Recommendation
From the social media strategist departments view, it is essential to employ telecommuting techniques in the company to reduce the impacts of the interaction of employees in the workplace on the level of creativity and productivity. For instance, a decrease in creativity due to the cross-pollination of ideas across the departments would affect the overall creativity among the employees. Another limitation of over-crowded workplaces is the inability of managers to supervise multiple departments effectively. However, telecommuting should be implemented in the appropriate departments. Telecommuting might not be suitable for some departments where managers need to observe and supervise the employees. It would be stressful to supervise many employees who are telecommuting. The company would have a successful telecommuting strategy when the various responsibilities, relationships, and policies in the workplace are structured in a way that ensures authority and accountability. The management should decide which employees and departments are eligible to shift to telecommuting. Finally, the company should spearhead a formal training program for manager and telecommuters to have a clear understanding of the procedures and policies regarding telecommunication. The policies indicate the conditions under which the telecommuting is conducted to meet both the companys and clients expectations. The establishment of a system that provides a platform for feedback from both the manager and employees regarding telecommunication will help in the preparation of future telecommuting strategies. They would be actively engaged in decision-making, meetings and feedback forums.
