A concussion is a moderate traumatic brain injury caused by a jolt to the skull and the head. It may be caused by a blow or bump on the head or scalp. A concussion changes the normal functioning of the bran. A shock may cause short-term effects or severe long-term effects. Concussion manifests itself in the form of memory problems, nausea, and headache, and fatigue, changes in the mood and sleep disturbances. Some symptoms show after an injury or maybe noticed after some time later. Concussions are prevalent in sports and recreation-related sports. The games that lead to concussions include soccer, football, playground activities, bicycling and basketball. Football has the highest number of shocks occurring in every year. Male players tend to have a large number of concussions compared to the female players. The high school athletes who sustain concussions takes a longer time to recover compared to the college students (Iverson, Grant et al. p324). The concussion in a high school individual tends to recurrent. If a shock is not correctly diagnosed and managed, it can cause severe long-term effects and become a death risk or a coma.

Description of the Problem

Concussion results from the alteration of the functioning of the cells and cell death. The damage to the neurons may cause a concussion which is a severe brain injury. They result from a fall, head blow or any injury that causes a shake in the skull thus affecting the brain. A brain is usually surrounded by a spinal fluid which is underneath the skull. A bang in the head causes the brain to hit the skull, injuring the brain thus resulting in a concussion. A concussion makes one lose memory which makes them forget what just happened after the injury. Some people lose their consciousness while others experience apparent symptoms of a shock. There are no visible signs and symptoms of brain injury though bruises may be seen on the face and the skull.

Problem Solution

During the treatment, the healthcare provider should focus on the primary health and the well-being of the athlete rather than minimizing the injury. The healthcare provider should avoid focusing on the players capacity to perform in the field. It is necessary to prevent the reoccurrence of another concussion and the management of the disorder. The decision-making process of returning to the field should be done by the player with the help of a healthcare provider. The brain impairment occurs in the football players due to the lack of knowledge and information on the causes and ways to prevent the concussions. All the football athletes should be educated on the essential knowledge on the various aspects of shocks. It may help the athletes avoid the concussions and acquire the experience on the remedies of the concussion.

Justification of the Problem

The research on the concussions in football is meant to know the causes, symptoms, and treatment of concussion (Martin, Tywan G., et al., 56). The diagnosis and treatment of the concussion are intended to better the health of the football athletes. The concern of the effects of the concussions, either long-term or short-term is essential in concussion diagnosis, treatment, and management.
