Manchester arena bombing remains one of the most significant harrowing situation I have experienced in my life. The incident involved a terror attack by a lone bomber who detonated an improved device in one section of the arena at the end of an Ariana Grande concert in May this year. The situation was so intense and frightening and resulted in the loss of lives of 22 individuals and injuries to hundreds of other people. For me, I felt as dead as a doornail and was so scared as hell since I was located near the bombed foyer. The incident left me terrified until I experienced goose pumps before security officers came to my rescue.
Ideally, that fatefully day started with a chilly morning, and I woke up with full anticipation of the exciting and fun-filled day. I woke up at dusk and phoned my friend Joe who responded that Hey Cate, lets go we are late! that was five hours before the event started and we were so enthusiastic to be among thousands of Grande fans in the concert. Three hours later we were already seated at fully packed Manchester arena with the excited crowd looking forward to meeting their favorite actress. The event proceeded very smoothly and colorful until the end where something unexpected happened.
Just right after the end of Arianas performance, I heard a big explosion that subsequently led to a stampede. Loud screams and cries filled the air as some shouted Please help I am dying while others could be seen nursing injuries and fighting for their lives. What a frightening moment it was! I recall my friend Joe jumping over a wall while being among other thousands of people heading towards a single narrow exit. For me, I remained rooted in my seat since the situation had sent shivers down my spine and since I was not hurt, I took a small time and silently said: thank you, lord!
The aftermath of the bombing was horrifying because of impacts of stampede and deaths from the explosion. Within ten minutes, there were hundreds of rescuers who responded efficiently to emergency cases. In one instance, I assisted an elderly woman who was seriously injured and told her; just try, just try, all will be well as I escorted her to an ambulance. The police responded by conducting a controlled explosion due to the possibility of other mounted explosive devices within the vicinity. Later on, I started the process of looking after my friend Joe who had disappeared from the scene as a speeding bullet. Luckily, I found him safe at emergency area set by the rescuers.
Manchester attack will remain one of the fateful days I will remember for decades. What was going to be a memorable day of my life immediately turned out to be a tragic. Watching hundreds of people laying down in a pool of blood made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up because it was disheartening. The survivors experienced a rollercoaster of emotions, and the people who lost their loved ones were advised on four essential steps to successfully overcome: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and end with acceptance. Although I remained in a somber mood for several days, I finally accepted the situation and prayed for Gods protection in my future endeavors. However, my friend Joe remained scared of any social gathering and vowed never to attend such events due to fear of terrorist attack.
