Unemployment is to a great extent placed within the purview of a social problem because the causes of this challenge are beyond the control of an individual or the immediate environment. Unemployment is defined as a situation in which a qualified person is unable to secure an economic preoccupation. Lack of engagement in a gainful economic activity is a challenge that is interlinked with people and the larger society. The social and economic impacts of unemployment are monumental, and they can be traced to problems such as homelessness and inability of people to provide and care for their families which is relatable to personality problems (Strober et al, 2012).The unemployment rate in the USA by the end of 2017 was 4.1 percent according to Bureau of Labor Statistics, which was a drop by 0.6 percent from the figure that was recorded in 2016. This essay will focus on unemployment as a social problem that faces communities.

Other aspects of spillovers that the society has to incur as a result of unemployment are unattractive which in particular relates to crime, healthcare services, and the social transfers. In the modern society, people find their integral roles in the community through employment and hence lack of economic preoccupation is always connoted with negativity it exposes to the individual and the entire society (Jakimovski, 2010). Employment is viewed as a form of social security in which an individual can interact with people and the government as they build their foundation for a better living.

Unemployment has been elevated to be a major challenge to human development with repercussions to how societies are organized. (Schirmer & Bernstein, 2017). The solution to this challenge can be realized through the creation of social networks that focus on the advocacy relating to the plight of the vulnerable people due to unemployment. Econometric analysis gives an accurate explanation on the relationship between youth unemployment and global financial crisis and hence the government as a social institution plays a critical role in addressing this social issue (Tanveer et al., 2012) .Interest groups must amplify the need to build capacity who are unemployed by denouncing the common norm of presenting these people as being receivers of help from the government (Bijker et al., 2012). Conclusively, lack of employment by a particular segment of the population can be equated to being denied the right to participate in building the country because limited access to the labor market.
