It is believed by contemporary personality psychologists that there are Big 5 personality traits which form the fundamental dimension of classification. Theories that discuss personality are extraversion, neuroticism, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness. Each of the five attributes has factors that give a wide range of them, and anyone can know their personality by performing the test designed under this profiling (Schwartz, Eichstaedt, Kern, Dziurzynski, Ramones, Agrawal, and Ungar,2013 p 79731). Strength and weakness can be deduced from it; besides, it also influences individuals job performance. In this paper, I will look at My Big Five personality profile, and how it might impact my job performance.

Extraversion

This personality concerns the orientation aimed at other people, and it must be outside oneself. Extraversion is characterized by sociability, talkativeness, excitability, high amounts of emotional expression. It is argued that people who are low in extraversion also known as introverted are reserved, and in a social setting they do expend energy (Schwartz et al.,2013 79731). On the other hand, those high on extraversion are considered to gain energy in social situations and are outgoing.

Am low in extraversion; I prefer solitude, the reason why in most cases I would be away from groups and find myself comfortable being alone. When I must socialize a lot, then it means I must deal with exhaustion. Starting a conversation is a problem, and I dislike making small talks to people around especially strangers. I tend to analyze a situation before I engage in a conversation and more often before speaking, I carefully think things over. I also hate being the center of attention in a group and have a narrow social circle of acquaintances and friends as I rarely talk about myself.

Agreeableness

Psychologists say that agreeableness is the quality of being pleasing, gives satisfaction or just being suitable. The dimensions of the of this trait are attributed to kindness, affection, altruism, and those that promote social behaviors (Schwartz et al.,2013 79732). Manipulativeness and being more competitive is what defines those low in agreeableness; however, those high in it are generally cooperative.

Am slightly above average when it comes to this personality trait. Am interest in other people but not to a large extend; I do care about others especially people close to me. In a situation where people have trouble I empathize and sympathize with them. I feel satisfied when I contribute to another persons happiness.

Conscientiousness

People with the desire to do a task well, and they tend to be vigilant careful and thorough are considered being high in conscientiousness. Such individuals are also mindful of details, and they are very organized. The standard features that define this trait are impulse control, goal-directed behaviors, and being very thoughtful.

Personally, I do not fall on the lowest end, as I do not like using tight schedules and structures, I find it difficult to return things that I have used to their previous right place; If I mess up, I get troubled. I do procrastinate important tasks and usually attend to them at the last minute, and work well with an induced pressure.

Openness

Openness comes in when a person is receptive to a broad range of interests such as new ideas, environment, cultures, people, behaviors, and experience. Insight and imagination are also the feature of this trait. Those high in this categorization tend to be more adventurous and creative. Those who struggle with abstract thinking are low in it.

Concerning openness, I happen to be on the lower side. I not embrace change so quickly and do not enjoy new thing until I get familiar with them; I happen to resist ideas especially if they come from strangers; I hate theoretical concepts, however, I like when I can produce practical results. I only focus on problems in areas I have interest in.

Emotional Stability

The opposite of it is called neuroticism. Neuroticism is featured by moodiness, sadness and emotional instability. Those high in emotional stability are more stable, and they are resilient emotionally (Schwartz et al.,2013 79734). On the contrary, those low in this trait do experience anxiety, sadness, mood swings, and irritability.

I am emotionally stable. I deal well with stress, and do not allow myself to be brought down with stressful situations; I rarely feel depressed and usually take situations naturally and do not worry much and in most cases very relaxed.

I agree with my assessment of the Big five personal profile because the dimensions genuinely tell the character of a person. I can confidently say am emotionally stable and agreeable but low in extraversion. For the conscientiousness and openness, on a scale of one to ten, I can give myself three and a half.

I can accurately tell my strengths and weakness since I have known where I belong in Big 5 profile. My strengths rely on being emotionally stable, resilient to stress and having a smiling face. Therefore, it's typically difficult to tell when am in a difficult situation. Stressful situations do not to a large extent affect my actions. Furthermore, am an agreeable person, though I would grade myself seventy-five percent when it comes to rating. Helping others in a difficult situation without expecting a reward in return has helped me in blending with others.

My big weakest point is in extraversion as a personality profile. It is known that talking and socializing with other people is one of the ways to make friends and get ideas, especially when talking to good people. Being low in Extraversion is a weakness, yes, but I also know that it is essential to work on your weakness so they may not weigh you down. To improve on that, I usually keep the few good friends I interact with to make a strong and a long-lasting relationship. I exploit other means of communication like writing messages though challenging to try keeping in touch besides striving face to face communication.

The other weakness is openness and conscientiousness. I have a problem trusting strangers; it is not a problem to me because I get to gain confidence in people and situations slowly and once it is done then, it is like problem solved. I can take myself to be on the borderline in conscientiousness, therefore unless working with one who is a perfectionist, I get little problem with other.

Influence on My Job Performance

Finally, my personality might influence positively and negatively my job performance. I being emotionally stable helps in my relationship with colleagues in place of work. I can help a team handle a stressful situation and avoid violence. Nonetheless, being agreeable assists, I avert unproductive competition but instead be a team player (Neal, Yeo, Koy, and Xiao,2012 p178). The negative side that comes with my profile has been missing chances to give my ideas since I do avoid being the center of attention. I miss out a lot when it comes to short-term meeting with other people.

Conclusion

Have learned where I belong using the Big 5 personality profile. Using it, I have also identified my strengths and weaknesses and given ways on how I have been working on the weak points. Lastly, have illustrated on how my traits affect my job performance positively and negatively.
