A structure is anything constructed from different connected parts and has a fixed point on the ground. Such include buildings. Also, the term is used to denote a body with connected parts designed to hold loads though not made specifically to hold people. Sometimes engineers refer to such as non-building structures. Roofs are not considered part of a structure unless they are floors. Also, external walls including curtain walls and cladding which are known for wind loads and self-weight are not considered load-bearing an element of structures.

Design theory provides the fundamentals of forming visual communication and other types of art. It involves the way people perceive and view information. This includes the understanding of various tangible aspects such as form volume, shape, line, composition, structure, texture, scale, color, proportion, form and space among others.
