An insane incident that almost resulted in drowning at a beach remains one of the most horrifying happenings in my life. The incident occurred in Miami beach located in Florida, and it happened several years ago when I was still young. The situation was so intense and frightening because I was scared as hell after being rescued by swimming pool service technician. The situation could have turned worse if it was not for the emergency services called by my friends.
Ideally, the fateful day started so brightly since it was our school trip to the Museum of Florida History. We were to see and learn several exhibitions at the Museum and later head to Miami Beach for leisure activities. At the beach, we were instructed by our teachers to swim but only within the shallow waters. Since I had little experience in swimming, I was nervous and afraid of swimming but at the same time experienced quilt of being ridiculed by my friends if I failed to swim. Therefore, I joined my friends at the pool, but after few minutes, something strangely happened. I panicked after realizing I had crossed to the deep end and I immediately lost balance and struggled while screaming help me!.
As I struggled, I felt an intense pain in my chest and felt as if my lungs were giving out. I struggled to regain balance, but my arms became weak, and legs became exhausted. I developed breathing problems while swallowing a significant amount of water. What I could hear from the background is voices shouting she is drowning please help, please help. The speed at which I was losing out could have been disastrous, but I suddenly felt somebody holding my hands and bringing me towards the surface of the pool. Thank God! I was finally rescued, and that was a huge weight off my mind.
I was hurriedly taken to a nearby health facility for an emergency checkup since I complained of burning nose and throat. I remember medical officers asking me how I felt and failed to answer him because I wondered how could he fail to notice how I felt as dead as a doornail. Although I looked flabbergasted, I silently took a small time and said: thank you Lord! while still recuperating, I was visited by my friends to offer their support but what made me dizzier is one of them saying I enjoyed swimming in those war water. In my mind, it was a different case, but I consoled myself because it was a challenge and possibly a lesson to others.
This incident remains to be one of the fateful days I will live to remember for decades. What could have been my best day ever almost cost my dear life. As I was drinking coffee to remove the cold I experienced, I figured out the costs of my naivety of taking a huge risk in the name of fearing being ridiculed. I started asking myself several questions that became a lifetime lesson in my life. Water taught me some strong lessons and the most significant lesson is not taking risks, especially in complicated situations. If I could have worn floating jackets, I could not have undergone that test of my life. From that day, I learned swimming skills and always using life jackets in areas like oceans of harbors.
