Cars being manufactured have surpassed those getting out of the broad. As the same time, business and other organizations are increasing a number of employees, many who drive a car to work or elsewhere. It has become therefore a necessity for organizations to provide parking that is more efficient, convenient and utilizes the available spaces optimally (Albino, Berard and Dangelico, 2015). That has resulted in the need for smart parking, where technology is used to guide drivers to empty parking lots, reserve parking lots among other actions which will make the entire thing very efficient. Universities too are not left behind. Today, they admit more students who driver, have acquired more staff, yet they have not expanded parking from that built decades ago. Smart parking seems like a necessity for universities to utilize the available spaces optimally. This research briefly discusses the topic, giving more oversight about it, and how it should be implemented.

Smart cities are now the most talked topic, and the context of discussion always turn to elements exhibit a smart city. Cities today host more than half the global population, with that number expected to grow to 70 percent by 2050 (Albino, Berard and Dangelico, 2015). Whereas it is becoming increasingly hard for city dwellers to tolerate the inconvenience caused by manually looking for parking lots, organizations are also discovering the importance of using technologies to create smart parking. One of the technologies that are being deployed is the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). RFID automates the car parking systems (Pala and Inanc, 2017). Essentially, it automates check-ins and checkouts, reducing the intensive yet slow human capital. Another important aspect of the RFID is that has the sensors which can detect an empty parking lot and immediately notify the driver who is coming. Instead of the driver moving around to spot the parking lot, he or she drives straight to where the sensor notes. The sensors also can reserve parking lots, making it easy for specific needs. This quick notification will help avoid traffic jams at entry and exit points, making the entire process flow smoothly.

Most of these automated systems will be managed remotely, ensuring they remain efficient and convenient to users. The concept of the Internet of Things (IoT), which are computer systems that monitor, manage and control devices will be in use (Kim, Ramos and Mohammed, 2017). The advantage of this concept is that they can provide more, making things further easier. They can collect statistics, analyze and recommendable actions that will improve the system. The world is looking up to these computer systems beyond car parking systems, and would even be used to do other things like enabling remote revenue collection, advising of safety procedures among others. Even university dons do not want to drive on the wrong roads, risking inconveniencing their arrival time.

Smart parking is a reality, and many firms are already implementing it, more are following. Universities value time, and it is necessary to ensure no don wastes time looking for parking. A significant portion of carbon emissions happen in traffic jams, and smart parking may mean such won't be more again. The world is looking into an era where every place organization will have no option other than embracing smart parking (Siuhi and Mwakalonge, 2016). Afterall, it will optimize parking, integrate payment systems, reduce pollution and provide so many other advantages.
