Taking risks calls for someone to put him/herself outside the comfort zone and potential for either gaining or losing. It drives someone to be vulnerable and anticipate for a positive outcome. Human beings try to avoid stressful moments which takes them away from their comfort zones hence delaying opportunities or letting them pass. People argue every day that life is too short to take chances but in real sense failure to take risks leaves someone with regret of missing out. Taking risks leaves an experience to look back at and reflect on all the chances one could have missed out. The beauty of life is taking chances, following the heart even where the odds do not seem to be in our favor.

Risks taking generate numerous new possibilities. People who succeed not only in business but other life situations are those who put themselves on the line and create a new set of opportunities. Additionally, it unlocks other doors that one has not been anticipating or considering. A hockey legend Wayne Gretzky quoted" You miss 100 % of the shots if you don't take". Many successful people and organizations arise due to the risk that was taken during the decision making. Before the invention of lightbulb Edison took risks and tried over one thousand times become succeeding. Currently, he is among the top known inventors (Flower, Linda & Christine Ritchie, 157).

Creativity and innovation emerge as a result of risk-taking. Only those who are willing to risk going far can find how far it is possible to go. Innovators try to mitigate the risk by eliminating the possibility of failure but all in all they take risks. It is the only way to learn from the past mistakes. Risk-taking teaches essential skills like strategic thinking and planning, especially for the entrepreneurs. It is an avenue for growth and change in life. In a competitive business environment, risk takers tend to thrive better than their competitors (Roper, Stephen & Efstathios 360).

Taking risks is the best way to overcome fears. One of the reasons as to why people avoid risk-taking is the fear of hurt, disappointment, and ridicule which is the source of failure. Taking a step ahead and taking risks gives new strength to overcome the fears associated with risks. It provides a new focus on the project rather than focusing on the thinking of other people (Roper et al., 362). Role models are associated with risk-taking and making trials. For example, parents have to take risks and try many new things which encourage the children to emulate the same.

Risk creates changes and creates a higher standard of life. In life, if we want something to change we have to do something different which we are not sure of the consequences. Lost time and unproven results can only be accounted for by taking the risk and creating the change. No matter how initial results are, there is always a lesson learned from the danger which will guide in been productive at the end (Flower et al., 156). Additionally, risk-taking creates new standards in the mind which push someone to go to the next level and achieve something of excellence.

Despite the many benefits associated with risk-taking, it is good to make the wise decision and mitigate the effect of the risk. Some risks are not worth taking especially if they have an adverse impact on the health or lives of other people. More so, safety and environment risks like emission of toxic chemicals ought to be avoided. Taking risks does not necessarily mean doing so haphazardly (Flower et al., 157).

It is always good to take a risk which is the outlet to the achievements of dreams, goals, and desires. Risk-taking generates more favorable outcomes than just waiting for fate to take a chance. It is the only way that we can define who we are and gain the courage to pursue our success.
