Nicholas wrote this article when he has a great concern on the health condition of different people. His interest is how to improve the population health and collaboration between medical, social services and public health (Jacobson and Teutsch, 2012). The author of this article opens his discussion in a very interesting tone by explaining his interest in regards to public health and how it can be promoted. Nicholas has realized that the main step that can be taken to improve population health include collaboration between different medical and public health service institutions. The author believes that the only way of improving public health is to improve environmental conditions, economic conditions, and medical care. It is true that the availability of healthy foods, parks, and other safe places can only be there when the public have sufficient resources and are ready to maintain good environmental conditions.
The author of this article also outlines challenges experienced when trying to improve population health. The most important challenge is too much racism, ethnicity, and sociodemographic diversity among the people living in cities (Institute of Medicine, 2011). It is also very difficult to deal with subgroups that have varied exposure, behavior, and traditions. Other challenges include nonconformity with geographical and political boundaries may also hinder the improvement of population health. These diverse characters are likely to cause accountability problems to public health officers.
The author of this article also presents his information in a logical manner. He first introduces the paper by highlighting key things on how to improve population health. Challenges which are experienced when trying to improve public health are also mentions using simple language and short sentence structure (Institute of Medicine, 2012). Finally, the author explains opportunities available in the US that can help the public to improve population health. They include high population density, access to diverse services and potential of community networks in the USA. High population density creates the geographic clustering of patients prone to different diseases caused by environmental irritants. This, therefore, provides an opportunity for deploying effective interventions.
