To prepare criminals for going back to their societies and decrease recidivism, inmates are offered chances when incarcerated to address health requirements and develop work and life skills. Correctional services might provide inmates mental health treatment and substance abuse (Miller, Griffin & Gardner, 2016). However, individual institutions offer educational lessons like library services, adult continuing education, wellness education, parenting classes and literacy classes.This is an Allegheny County jail grounded professional reentry program. The targeted correctional population in the U.S. involves the grownups under community parole or on probation (supervision), in federal and state prisons, and in the local prisons. The program consisted of two-phase reentry program with the general objective of decreasing recidivism as well as improving prisoners transition into the society. Therefore, the program hypothesizes that inmates are likely to re-offend when they return to the community without appropriate correctional services. According to Kingston et al. (2016), the independent variables are the conditions, for instance, the inmates and correctional officers while the dependent variables are the resulting behaviors from the inmates.
Observation, focus groups, and action research are the three methods of data collection that were used in the program. The first phase provided prisoners with in-jail services and programming to make them ready for release. Whereas the second phase offered criminals with up to twelve months of helpful facilities in the society. Inadequate finance and lack of enough services were the significant barriers to the implementation of the program (Kingston et al., 2016). One of the limitations of the study is that the research was done within a smaller group which might not have represented the entire community. Similarly, there were insufficient resources to ensure perfection of the studies. The program ensures that the community is protected from violent and dangerous criminals and also gives inmates the opportunity to reflect on their deeds and provides them a period to change their behavior. Conversely, the program being expensive and time wasting are some of the weaknesses of the program. The projects partakers had a ten percent probability of re-arrest, as compared to the 34% likelihood for the assessment group.
