Civil engineering has been my dream profession since childhood as realizing it would be my lifetime source of happiness. My passion in Engineering as a profession was motivated by the urge to look for solutions to the almost endless tragedies related to the civil engineering projects, particularly accidents. Training as a civil engineer will afford me the opportunity to advance various fundamental skills including conception, building, supervision, operation, construction, as well as the maintenance of all the infrastructural projects. I am passionate about perception these abilities and apply them to solve real-life engineering problems. In the pursuit of my professional development, I am interested in coming up with strong and standard buildings to help avert accidents associated with the substandard constructions.
I have an unwavering sense of self-motivation which drives me towards the realization of the ambition to be part of the problem-solvers in the civil engineering profession. The extreme dedication I have put in excelling in the profession is similarly reflected in the academic performance displayed. Personally, I do not view engineering just as one of the many courses that one can pursue, but rather as an opportunity and a greater calling since through it, I obtain satisfaction as well as a sense of belonging which in reality, other courses and therefore professions may not offer.
One of the greatest strengths that I possess, which help me learn new things and confidently face challenges, the ability to follow through on tasks and activities before me. Any person, who desires to excel and achieve highly in whatever they pursue, would need self-determining and resilience, all which have been exhibited in my walk towards the achievement of the goal. My aspiration is to be among the noblest engineers in the world, who uses his opportunity to be a role model and eye-opener to others too who would like to venture into the profession. Changing the world through Civil Engineering is my dream; through assisting people and also changing their lives.
Besides the goals, I also possess various characters which are essential for Civil Engineers as they carry out their professional duties and responsibilities. First and foremost are the communication skills which I acquired when I was the students representative. The position not only made me a good speaker, but also a customer service provider. A civil engineer must be an individual who is able to present precisely plans and reports before the audiences from different spectra of life and even technical knowledge. Clear communication, as well as the ability to converse with people through translation of complex engineering terms into easy-to-comprehend language, is thus an inevitable character which a civil engineer should have.
As previously mentioned, another character of importance in the discipline is a problem-solving skill which I also possess and is very vital for engineers. Usually, Civil Engineers are expected to work at the apex of planning, designing, construction, and operation of highly branched projects. Such projects involve many variables which dictate that an engineer must be able to identify and evaluate them. Having such soft skills enable the engineer to use cost-effective, safe, and proper methods and solutions.
Other characters and skills that I have which are categorically important in the discipline of engineering include decision making which require civil engineers to make decisions based on their technical knowledge, best practices, and experience, leadership skills which require that the Engineer be the lead planner, surveyor, and organizer, and organizational skills which require that Civil Engineers be those who can plan with time and allocate resources appropriately.
Entering the workforce is an opportunity for a civil engineer to add more value to the classroom knowledge. In other words, when Civil Engineers enter the workforce, they get the time and space to apply intensely the knowledge they have acquired in real life. Personally, there are many things that I intend to learn when I get the internship opportunity. First will be obtaining the highly needed hands-on experience about what civil engineering as a profession entails. It is during the fieldwork that as a civil engineer I will be able to identify the problems that exist and formulate appropriate solutions to address them. It is my dream to learn all the technical skills in civil engineering in the field by translating one by one the theoretical knowledge learned in class into tangible projects and solutions. Particularly, my interest is in offering solutions and making the world a better place to live in, hence that would be my major focus point.
To this end, I expect using the practical nature of the course to develop innovative approaches for problems in the construction of tunnels, railways, roads, airports, bridges, dams, buildings, and water supply systems. The scholarship opportunity will be a critical milestone in the realization of this anticipation. Therefore, I request to be awarded the chance to pursue my career due to the aforementioned strengths, interest, and goals. With my innovative mindset, will focus on growing my skills to become a distinguished engineer. This scholarship opportunity will go a long way in helping me to my ambition of offering new approaches to safeguarding the safety of users of any structure by developing magnificent strong structures.
