CHAPTER ONE: BE YOUR OWN CHAMPION
My dream goal is to be a successful sports manager. I have my mind set on helping the people in the sports field specifically football stars. Having played the sport, myself in school for a while I saw the challenges one can face and its ups and down. Therefore, am dedicated to making a big difference in this field because by helping this sports stars I feel satisfied as a human being in general. The main reason I took up this major in the first place was to be able to help sports stars in doing their marketing, their facility management, helping them with their finances, managing their events and providing advice on everything sports.
I have assignments every week, some of them entail a lot of research and brainstorming. I, however, write down everything I am supposed to accomplish down and put my mind on it. Therefore, even thou I am tempted to give up I dont because of the mindset.
There are things that I feel like I need to do in order to be at old level and this include; developing my vision and nurturing it, always be open to criticism and this means that I take every comment from my teachers and fellow students positively in order to be able to grow from that, show confidence in myself as an individual and be confident in doing all my work whether its homework or classwork or research, care for my fellow students and above all always show respect to everyone regardless of our differences and disagreements.
I believe that in order to make a change to be great there are certain things that I need to start doing differently and this include; I see myself consulting more with my teachers and my fellow students, taking every assignment with the seriousness it deserves, confiding in my teachers or the school counselor whenever am faced with issues that I cannot handle myself and always strive to be the best version of myself that I can possibly be.
I need to stop procrastinating my assignments and research projects as I end up doing things in a hurry and doing them wrong or even sometimes not doing them at all. Also comparing myself too much with my classmates which usually lead to me seeing myself as an inferior or an underperformer sometimes and this kills my general morale as a student. I also need to stop late submission of homework and assignments and make proper use of my time.
CHAPTER TWO: MASTER THE MENTAL GAME
After carefully evaluating how I have been performing, my three-level goal system entails; bronze, getting more than a pass in my assignments and home works, silver, asking my teachers for personal assessment of assignments I get from the library and genuinely taking in the correction, gold, being among the top ten performers in my class by the end of the semester.
a. The biggest challenge I have had is public speaking, therefore when we have been told to present our assignments I have most of the times shied off and this has led to me being denied marks for failure of presentation. However, I have been able to overcome this fear and been able to present my assignments to the whole class, as challenging as it was I kept on encouraging myself throughout the whole process.
b. My greatest achievement this semester was a presentation and research that I did and it ended up being the best in the class and among the top five overall the lecture had ever accessed. It was a presentation on the future of sports and sports event in the football arena. The passion I have in this area of sports really motivated me towards doing thorough research and also writing the best presentation on it. My lectures motivation in class about setting goals and keeping them and also always having a positive mentality encouraged me all through.
c. My three strengths that have helped me throughout this course include my endurance, my research discipline and also the ability to collaboratively include my classmates in my research.
d. The best three compliments that I have received throughout this semester came from my classmates, they told me that my competitive nature encourages them to better themselves, my teacher told me that my determination to see myself through this course has really helped him and also my brother who always tells me that my focus encourages him to work hard in school also.
e. the people who believe in me so much and have always believed in my success are my parents, my siblings and my teacher.
f. The three awards I have received this semester was the free tour I received after topping in my presentation and my parents also bought me a new laptop for the determination they have seen in me to excel always.
g. My biggest inspirations in life have been my big brother and cousin, they have done and completed the current course am doing and they are on the field trying to make a difference in this field. They always give me advice and encourage me to do more and to do better. Whenever I feel like the course is too hard I always go to them for advice and they give I to me willingly and freely.
CHAPTER THREE: BE IN IT TO WIN IT
a. In my first year, I was still adapting to the university and everything around it. Therefore, in the spirit of adventure and trying to familiarize myself with the new environment I ended up missing some few classes that were crucial and important to my course. When the exams were due I believed that I was going to fail them because there was no way I was going to recover those classes I missed on time.
b. However, another classmate of mine was also going through the same ordeal. He told me that as long as you are in to win it then there was nothing that we couldnt accomplish. Therefore, we put down a study timetable and had to read for extra hours as usual. In the back of our heads, we knew that nothing came easy and therefore we did stick to our timetable and to our surprise we were able to cover the classes we missed on time and got some time to do some revision also.
CHAPTER FOUR: THE WISDOM OF A CHAMPION
The reason I study is that I am passionate about sports and helping the sports field even thou are not doing it as a player. I have realized that the people who are outside the field play an equally important role as the people in the field also, thats why we say that most coaches shape the players into who they are. Recently we were a very important test in class that was to make up for most of the marks in my grade.
The event is a major test that we were told to properly prepare for because it was important and it contributed a lot to my grade.
I took extra hours to read and also relax using good music. We formed a discussion group with my classmates that helped us get more insight into the unit and what it entailed. Where we did not know or understand we went ahead to consult our teacher for assistance.
Not everyone showed up on time, I included during our group discussion time and this meant that we missed out on some time. Therefore, the issue of time needs to get addressed so that the group work can be more effective.
We need to read all the time even when we are not expecting a cat, exam or assignment because it helps us to keep our minds fresh on the unit we are doing and the things that the teacher is teaching. Also, this gives us the ample time to properly read on the topics that are challenging and ask for assistance prior to time.
CHAPTER FIVE: EXERCISE, NUTRITION, PAIN, INJURIES, AND REGENERATION
In everything that we do we will always be faced with challenges. In my case, as I study I am bound to always face challenges in a daily routine. From reading the chapter on pain management I took away two major points of dealing and managing my pain and they are; shifting negative thoughts to positive thoughts. Most of the times we are given very challenging and hard assignments and home works and in my head, am always seeing how the task in front of me is hard to accomplish or attain. Therefore, from this strategy, I have learned how to always suppress those negative thoughts and instead change them into positive ones. Therefore, instead of seeing how the assignment is going to drain me I see how much am going to learn from the assignment. The second strategy that I took away from this was listening to my favorite music. This applies mostly when I feel so empty and drained when I listen to uplifting lyrics and songs they help me get back my morale and help me accomplish hard and challenging tasks that I have ahead of me.
The method that makes the most sense to me is power through plateaus and setbacks; Most of the time when I have assignments and I feel like giving up I have learned how to cope with that by being optimistic that there is always the next time and I can always recover from that. This method does not necessarily help me out during school only but also in my life in general. There are always challenges that am facing and I feel like I cannot come out of it and move on but from reading this I have learned that its possible to soldier through this and overcome anything.
CHAPTER SIX: TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR PERSONAL DESTINY
The five things that I show gratitude to are; the good food I get to enjoy every evening, the games club that I and my classmates participate in every week, the good rapport between me and my teachers, my parents daily support and motivation and the positive compliments from my classmates.
The above-stated things help me get through every day positively as I always try to find the good in everything every day. Every evening when I eat good food it serves as a therapy session for me. The games club we are involved helps us t unwind and also at the same time socialize, compete positively and challenge each other to be high achievers. Having a good relationship with my teachers also helps me a lot when am studying because whenever I am faced with a challenging situation then I can approach and they genuinely offer me their assistance. My parents motivation daily helps me see myself as a winner and therefore no matter what I face I am always sure that I will overcome it.
CHAPTER SEVEN: ZEN IN THE ZONE
A. As a student, you need to always be open to learn and be able to take criticism positively. I have a big passion for the course am doing and am always open to learning and being corrected whenever am wrong. I have struggled sometimes with being corrected but I have learned how to always be open to hear what am being told because I will not always be right in everything that I am doing. I have learned that is it by accepting to be taught and corrected, that you actually learn.
B. I have sometimes not been so good at accepting failures or successes. Sometimes I attribute all the success to myself even though it was a team effort and sometimes when I fail at something I end up blaming the teachers or my groupmates. However, I have learned how to take responsibility for my actions and everything that I do.
D. I try my best to always give my all in everything that I do. I have learned how to utilize everything and not waste and seeing it as insignificant. For example, when I get a fail in a test I should use that as a stepping stone towards doing better and being better in that particular unit. Also, whenever I have free time I shouldnt waste it just idling around instead I should use that time to do further research into my course and look into practical internships in my course.
E. As a student challenges will always be there, there will be the good times and there will be the bad times. For instance, there was this one time I did incredibly well on a test and I let that get into my head. Therefore, I never paid attention to reading for the next paper and when the next test came I ended up failing and that really affected my confidence. Thereafter I learned not to celebrate or mourn over something until the whole journey is complete. I am still a...
