Dieting is the restriction of oneself to a certain amount of food or a particular type of foods for a specific reason. The reasons for dieting extend from weight loss, weight gain, health reasons, bodybuilding and personal beliefs. Not all deities are healthy. This essay will discuss some of the types of diet and their implications for the consumer. Also, it will describe the most robust forms of diet as recommended by health practitioners.
Vegetarian diet
A vegetarian diet is one that its followers do not take meat or fish. Though some consider dairy products, eggs, and honey, some of them never eat any animal product (mcgrr, pg 203). A vegetarian diet can be categories into different subcategories. The strict kinds who do not take any sort of animal products including honey are called vegans. There are the ovo-vegetarianism which is a vegetarian diet that includes eggs but excludes dairy products; the Ovo-lactovegetarianism includes both eggs and dairy while the Lacto vegetarianism takes milk but eliminate eggs and means containing animal rennet. The other category of a vegetarian diet is the fruitarian diet. Fruitarian diet consists of raw fruits.
A vegetarian diet has been found to have more health advantages than disadvantages. This diet reduces the probability of contracting heart disease, obesity, cancer, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension. A vegetarian diet also can lower the cholesterol levels in the body and maintain a lower body mass index. The people who follow this diet have been found to live longer
The zone diet.
This diet encourages the taking of unrefined carbohydrates and fats. A nutritional balance of 40 percent, 30 percent and 30 percent for carbohydrates, protein, and fats respectively maintained throughout the diet.
Detox diet
Detox diet is another type of diet. According to Moores, this diet involves flushing out unhelpful and harmful substances from the body. Apart from flushing out the substances, one can also avoid consuming the substances. It requires one to take a lot of water. Most of the foods in this diet are fruit juice.
Weight control diet
Weight control diet is another type of a diet which can be categorized into other foods (devlin, 2008). This diet though considered to have some health risks; it is widely used. Some diets in this group include low-calorie diets, deficient-calorie diets, low, carbohydrate diets and low fats diet. These diet help to regulate the body weight.
Belief based diet
Some diets are also belief based. The belief based diet includes the Buddhist diet which is mostly vegetarianism. The Hidhu and jain diets, these are primarily lacto-vegetarian. The Islamic dietary laws also restrict Muslims to foods that are permitted by the Islamic laws; the diet restricts consumption of port and animal meat that was not killed according to their law. The diet also restricts consumption of alcohol. The I-tal diet is mostly followed by the Rastafarians who mostly follow the vegetarianism. The jews follow the kosher diet. The seventh day Adventists combine the kosher and burn the use of alcohol.
Healthiest diets.
These diets are both healthy and some have some are unhealthy. The healthiest diets are the low-carbohydrate diet. Studies have shown that this diet helps to reduce and prevent cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, metabolic syndrome and high blood pressure. Though in most cases people lose weight it does not go for long. This diet is not recommended for pregnant people and breastfeeding mothers and also not suitable for people with kidney disease
Another healthier diet is the vegetarian diet. It has several advantages among them is maintaining low body weight (mcgrr, pg 203), most vegetarians have a low body mass index as compared to meat eaters. This diet also controls the cholesterol levels in the body. It also reduced the risks of contracting cancer and a lower risk of cardiovascular risk factor and the type 2 diabetes
Affects of dieting on people.
The effects of dieting can be categorized to both negative and positive. They can also be viewed by economic impact as well as their impact on the environment and health. These effects include:
Increase in energy
The body requires a balanced diet to be able to function well. Adequate amounts of macro and micronutrients must be present for a healthy diet; these are responsible for the body building blocks for effective body functioning. Macronutrients which mostly consist of carbohydrates, fats and proteins are responsible for energy production in the body. Micronutrients which are found within macronutrients help in cellular metabolism and energy production. The micronutrients include vitamins, minerals, enzymes and amino acids. Energy levels in the body are good in maintaining a consistent body processes, work, and exercise.
Strong immune system.
The immune system is responsible for keeping the body safe from diseases and disease coursing microorganisms. A well-balanced diet provides essential nutrients to the immune system for optimum operation. The micronutrients that give energy to the immune system include various vitamins, minerals and fatty acids and amino acids.
Reduced weight.
For weight control, various deities have given a guideline for the meal that helps in the same. Though this may be the case, genes have a central role in weight reduction. Weight reduction helps in maintaining the body health and reduces risks of heart diseases, hypertension, gout, fungal infections, diabetes, cancer, and osteoarthritis.
Financial and time investment
It is relatively expensive to maintain a healthy diet. Most of the fresh foods are expensive. Purchasing fresh fish, fruits, vegetables, and meat is more costly as compared to processed foods which come with several health implications. Some laws have been placed that make the fresh foods more expensive. Food preparation also requires a lot of time. Most people prefer processed food s as they need a shorter time to prepare as compared to fresh foods that require shopping and some cooking procedures before its ready for consumption.
Effects of dieting on the environment.
Dieting involves the production of healthy vegetables, fish, and meat. The farming done on the products requires pest control and manure application to the land for high productivity. The chemicals used for the control of pests and manure are harmful to our environment. This affects the livelihood of people as a result of the need for freshly produced foods.
Conclusion.
In conclusion, dieting has more health advantages as compared to disadvantages, a well Balanced diet helps in maintaining a healthy life. The Atkins diet and the vegetarians are the most robust deities with the most minimal adverse effects on health. This diet also helps in prevention and control of the most chronic diseases like cancer, diabetes and heart diseases. According to the preference and lifestyle of a person, one needs to observe a certain diet to health he live a healthy life. Every diet has its negative side. But a right menu has minimal adverse impacts. Visiting a medical practitioner will help to know the best diet one has to follow to keep him or her healthy.
