Organizational leadership is one of the central factors of corporate success. Effective leaders are the driving force for the mission and vision of a company (Biviano, 2000). While research has indicated how the presence of a leader is vital for effective planning and implementation of strategies, the leadership style is equally critical. The current shifts in business, which is emanating from the dynamic nature of the corporate sector, have indicated how introverted, transformational, and charismatic leadership styles are drawing significant scholarly attention. Confidence, compassion, and communication are part of the critical elements of charismatic leadership.
Confidence and maturity are central to charismatic leadership. Leaders who depict this style have drawn wisdom and knowledge from a range of experiences. Through observation and interaction with their environment, charismatic leaders are mature and responsible, which makes it easy for them to link evidence to decision-making. The level of experience allows such leaders to focus on possibilities and weigh options to segregate chance and reality. Being secure and confident will enable them to triumph amid corporate adversities (Biviano, 2000). While overconfidence could lead to disastrous decisions, charismatic leaders are keen to know the limits by evaluating the risks of their perceptions.
Moreover, communication is another vital feature of charismatic leadership. Through conversation, a leader is in position to share the expectations that define the organization. The level of interaction between the leader and his/her subjects establishes the extent to which engagement could be used a tool for success. Worth pointing out is that communication and listening are inseparable; therefore, charismatic leaders have a high tendency of listening to competitors, employees, and other stakeholders, which becomes the pool of evidence that they use to assess the viability of a decision (Johnson & Johnson, 1996; YScouts, 2016). Through effective communication, charismatic leaders can inspire followers and define their paths in line with their leadership goals. Such an advantage explains which charismatic leadership is central to employee performance.
Furthermore, compassion and humility is another intertwined element of charismatic leadership. Valuing others is an essential component of effective leadership. Understanding that employees are people with needs that sometimes spread beyond workplaces build a strong trust and understanding between the leader and the subjects. Recognizing the contribution of each worker builds loyalty. Charismatic leadership sets an atmosphere where the interests of employees and those of the organization are embedded to establishes an excellent culture. Being compassion and depicting a high degree of integrity and honesty has enabled charismatic leaders to build trust and confidence (YScouts, 2016).
In conclusion, while there exist several leadership approaches, charismatic leaders have been able to achieve significantly because of the link between the strategic implementation and the essential elements that define this type of style. Confidence, compassion, and communication have become the vital components of charismatic leadership. Listening to employees, being mindful of their needs, upholding integrity, and using the experience gathered while executing leadership duties have been linked to the success witnessed among charismatic leaders. However, the elements discussed in this essay should not limit the dimensions that define the appropriateness of charismatic leadership since other leadership elements have a significant contribution.
