Engineering body demands high level of competence and skill from its engineers. In this stage, engineer required to use the advanced engineering science, understand how to use other engineering knowledge provided by other people, make a comprehensive analysis of the problem and offered a suitable solution on these issues and determine the possible outcome and impact of these engineering activities. Some of the required elements of technical proficiency include advanced engineering knowledge, local engineering knowledge, problem analysis and creativity and innovation.
Advanced engineering knowledge requires me as an engineer to comprehend and understand theory-based issues and to determine the outcome of these engineering events. To the effect that individual I can apply knowledge to shape attitudes and meet the customers needs. Local engineering knowledge demands that I use engineering knowledge appropriately and contribute to other stakeholders such as suppliers and independent contractors. At this level, engineers are required apply both local and international engineering standards in the course of work. Moreover, using Australian knowledge and practices to contribute in the field of engineering. These methods comprise of written and unwritten engineering practices. Keeping oneself informed about the current issues and current technologies in practice is part of the competencies required of individual engineers.
Under problem analysis, the engineer needs to develop the ability to define, investigate and make a comprehensive review of the engineering problems. One is required to establish the underlying issues with precision and accuracy which results in improvement of outcomes. When the engineer works with the clients and the employer, it helps the engineer and the customers/employer to agree on the expected functionalities of the product or project. Engaging in structured communication with appropriate stakeholders who are well informed about the underlying issues is widely recommended.
Finally, creativity and innovation demands use of engineering knowledge to come up with innovative and creative solutions to the current engineering problems. Sponsors and clients expect to receive value from their projects and products. Therefore, you are required to provide practical approaches to creating value for clients and end users. Furthermore, the use of selected principles and advanced research is a requirement as it results in continuous technical changes enhancing product or project deliveries. It is important to mention that at this stage, a review of work portfolio, processes and systems makes part of innovation.
The Indicators of Attainment of technical proficiency
One of the key indicators is the practice of competency. The application that I made NSW Company accepted applications based on the competence of the applicants. For example, one of the questions asked was how I would improve transport services in the company. Having been selected to join the firm means that I needed to work meet the demands of the employer. Competence in the field of engineering is not an option. Employers seek individuals who are well versed in operations within the industry and who can work with minimal supervision. Given that the environment keeps changing, the firm considered adopting new technologies as a way of improving its business. This is an indication of innovation and creativity to move along with changes in the industry. Thus, I must keep updating myself with current issues in the transportation sector.
Communication and engaging with the relevant stakeholders is another indicator of attainment. The company seeks to maximize community benefits and the economy by maintaining transportation system. Hence, applying local engineering knowledge while using information from a team of employees within the company. Employees take initiatives to innovate and take actions when necessary. This aspect provides the basis for applying the engineering knowledge I have learned in class. Openness to learning new engineering concepts is something that I realized it is key to the success of an engineering environment. Despite the fact that there are some issues about the work environment, competence, skill, and communication provide the basis for thriving in many industries. Ethical issues such as honest product investigations and approvals account for persons able to work without compromising engineering set standards.
