The decision of legalizing medical marijuana in various states is put in the hands of the state government rather than on the primary beneficiaries of the drug, the doctors, and patients. Experts claim that marijuana is a relatively safe drug used for medicinal purposes. Legalization of medical marijuana has a positive impact on the well-being of patients undergoing chronic pain or under post-traumatic stress disorder. The legalization of medical marijuana will benefit both the local and state government and the society at large. Having an extended human use as an herbal medicine in Asia around 500BC, Marijuana has proved to be a drug that causes better than harm to its consumers when consumed for medicinal purposes. Dr. Sanjay Gupta claims that he had not researched hard enough for the benefits marijuana on the people. He focused primarily on the possible addition withdrawal symptoms that were likely to be the side effects of consuming marijuana. The doctor came clean on the ignorance surrounding his assumptions in spite of testimonies of patients whose pain alleviated after using pot. This essay enlightens states on why they should consider the legalization of marijuana. A summary paraphrasing the main points highlighted in the piece included.
Marijuana indeed has positive health benefits. It reduces nausea in patients undergoing chemotherapy. The THC component in cannabis increases appetite as well as cuts nausea. The segment also alleviates pain, inflammation and muscle control problems. AIDS patients have an increased desire after consuming the marijuana. Grass plays a huge role in treating mental disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder. The CBD component in cannabis does not make people high. The CBD helps in relieving pain, mental illnesses, and addictions. Hemp can also be used to treat severe pain and works more efficiently and safer than narcotic painkillers. Marijuana reduces symptoms of cancer, epilepsy, and chronic disease. Hemp can be used to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Patients with glaucoma use pot to reduce the pressure in the eyeball hence avoiding loss of vision. Some of the health concerns the society has on the use of marijuana include questions of whether or not the drug has long-term effects on the brain and if it causes permanent lung harm. Marijuana does not alleviate lung cancer risk but instead overrides the risk of the individual from getting lung and neck cancer. When grass is right doctors are responsible for reassuring their consumers that the drug is safe for consumption and has no harmful side effects.
The legalization of medical marijuana will benefit the economy of the state that legalizes it. When medical marijuana is legal, the government will earn revenue through the imposition of taxes. The legalization of medical marijuana will enable dealers to sell prescribed grass, and the booming of the new business venture will lead to more revenue. In addition to that, job opportunities will arise from the legalization of medical marijuana. The unemployed people can venture into the business of growing marijuana for sale to prescribed users and hence earn a living. When there is legal medical marijuana, the government will ensure that the grass sold to patients is of high quality. The government will be a better privilege of informing and providing the patients a dose that is relatively safe to them. Legalizing medical marijuana will enable the government to track people who sell the drug on large scale and place taxes to increase government profits. Legalization of marijuana will save money for the government and the society as well. The government resources that are used to carry out trials and prosecute marijuana dealers by putting them in prisons will be used to ensure public safety. The money that is spent by individual families on marijuana convicts to pay bails will then used in more productive ventures.
An expert, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, a CNN medical correspondent claimed that they were wrong in their opposition against pot (Dr. Sanjay Gupta, 2013). Dr. Sanjay Gupta claims that he had not researched hard enough for the benefits marijuana ad on the people. He focused primarily on the possible addition withdrawal symptoms that were likely to be the side effects of consuming marijuana.
