Community development is an essential tool in a countrys progress. It is practiced worldwide by many nations. It has a lot of benefits, but its main advantage and the reason it is practiced is that it provides a suitable environment that benefits all. It focuses mainly on cultural, social and environmental advancement. The process is conducted by ensuring all aspects of society are in collaboration. They also provide that participation is improved and there is no marginalization. The culture is both the means and the end of welfare and development. (Biggs, 1999). Community welfare and growth can happen if the community believes that working hand in hand can make a tremendous difference and take action by addressing their needs collectively.
In this scope, we take a look at community welfare and development in Gailes suburb in the City of Ipswich in Queensland. We will look at the community renewal and its impact on the people who lived in Caravan Park. The project is by residents of the area who participate in ensuring there is an enhancement of life for people living in the area. Government participation in collaboration with the community is at work in this project, and we shall also see the challenges and achievements of the project. We shall also look at the impact of the closure of Caravan Park on the residents and the issues involved in responding to the closing of the park for community and government workers.
Gailes is a community located at the Eastern end of the large Ipswich city. Life for the majority of the people there was not good. Life is composed of regular or no jobs, so the city has a high level of public housing. The high rental house rates caused families to live in a caravan park in the town. These factors have inhibited development in the area. The community, non-governmental institutions, and the government decided to react to the matter to improve development in the area. The Goodna communities moving forward forum was formed. Its main aim was to facilitate regular contact between the government and non-government society and the Gailes community members to address the issue of relevance to the residents (Goodna and Gailes Community renewal, 1999). The study will be according to Kennys policies of development and how they are used by the community workers.
Community development models
Promoting easier access in private sector homes is of the ways the community development can be fueled. Gailes is littered with public property which many residents cannot afford. The real estate private sector has partnered to make homes in Gailes affordable. They identify properties that have access features and enhance them in their listed properties in their listed properties to potential purchasers or tenants. The success of the project has led to more real estate agents now participating.
Government responsiveness and cross-governmental collaboration have also been improved. It has dramatically improved decision making and providing input into project activities. During the years 2007-2008, the overall satisfaction with government response on issues across Gailes rose highly. It paints a picture of how the society as a whole is joining hands to enhance development (Kenny, 1994).
Developing and testing innovative projects and delivery of service is also an area they have significantly improved. The government and all stakeholders reviewed the community renewal program to determine places where they can grow delivery of services and develop further innovative projects. It has led to making the communities sustainable by enhancing choice and access for residents in the housing market to ensure housing meets the needs of the community as a whole.
Communities should also be engaged accordingly. Many may be hurt by events, and the approach you make should be one that bodes well for the residents. They should be encouraged and given well-outlined reasons why the projects will work. The reaction of the people should also be taken into concern. They should take note of their emotions, grievances, and views among other things.
Leadership should also be an important factor in community welfare and development. The leaders across all sectors should act with wisdom and diligence. The decisions they make are the difference between prosperity and dismay. They should also have a collective agreement with no biased side to make process have concerns at all.
Assessment of The Community Development Projects
These models have led to the availability of employment by teaching residents on where to find jobs and requirements needed for specific tasks. The non-governmental sector has also made job opportunities available hence increasing employment opportunities and building the communitys economy. Quality of life has improved, and instances, where people are evicted from their house, are rare. Tenant satisfaction has been experienced by residents. It shows that there is access to human services.
Development should be viewed as a profession an essential tool of all human service (Kenny, 1994), it should consist of proven measures and concern for the people. Practical outcomes will be noticed within years. It can cause the change to a lot of people and minimizes risk in anything residents of a community do. There should be no imbalance in the process; all activities should be done with co-operation. Lack of this will make residents have to lose confidence which will lead to less human capital, poor communication skills, poor relationships among other things. The people need to be part of the community, feel useful, and participate in projects. The process will be much more natural to develop also when people are in high levels of social capital than with low levels of social capital (Kenny, 1994). All processes are essential and cannot be shoved aside when you want community welfare and development to happen smoothly.
The environment created after the completion of these projects is a fantastic environment. There is satisfaction in all areas. The communitys processes work well, and the economy also gets a massive boom. In this situation, the population lives in harmony and with no suffering. The mandate of the government is to maintain this environment by doing their part in all activities. A healthy relationship should be built and have negative thoughts of someone, or something should be discouraged.
Slight adjustments should be made on all the projects to achieve maximum satisfaction. The government should give all the stakeholders of the freedom of the project to conduct their activities smoothly. The adjustments should be focused mainly on the end product and not try to change them as a whole. Other projects that are not working should be adjusted or wiped off if solutions to make it better are not found.
Conclusion
The community development process, when conducted in the right manner, can improve the quality of life in a community, like in Goodna/Gailes. Real social justice was experienced, and it was done straightforwardly. The social environment was managed by the law and people were able to bounce back. It has led to vast improvements in the quality of life. When a community speaks about its grievances and does so in the right manner government response to the matter is the proper standard. The issue may lead to the collapse of the process that leads to development which is not a good thing. The approach to people when reacting to crucial points should be calculated. It should not be done after an extended period because the response of the people will not be as expected.
Community welfare and development is an essential factor for progress to be achieved. It is practiced by countries all around the world which proves how important it is. The models are more accessible to be grasped and followed by every sector in the community. The results are not an instance, but when they start showing themselves, they are remarkable. Just like the transformation of Goodna/Gailes residents. People were devastated at first after being evicted, but through the help of the government, they have recovered. If they were neglected, they would have been miserable because some of them knew they were to live all their lives in those houses.
The processes undertaken to handle this situation were well planned, and the co-operation of all stakeholders was terrific. They improved peoples attitudes and created an environment which they tackled the matter magnificently. The flowing of the process should be applauded. What the government follows up on the case is also a remarkable thing. In ensuring that all projects are flowing as they had been formed is a great thing. The plans should just be adjusted in the proper ways to make it more satisfactory. The collective work done by individuals and co-operation among them helps in making the process successful. The Kenny models help in making cultural, economic and social development help more in making the project easier to comprehend. They break down every detail into bits that everyone involved in the process can get a grasp of it. The situation Gailes improved, and people are living well due to this project.
